OVER 40 YEARS IN KALAMAZOO

Hi! I’m Tamar Helmick, the proud owner of the adorable resale boutique, Second Childhood. Second Childhood was born out of my mom’s love for a bargain and all the fun she had searching for them at garage sales. She decided to turn her favorite weekend adventures into her career by opening a cute consignment shop which offered bargains on lightly used children clothing for an affordable price. She wanted to keep the adventure thereby offering new items every day. After a summer of collecting children’s clothing from her friends and at yard sales while doing some research on this basically new concept, VOILA, Second Childhood began on August 29th, 1976. At the time, I was the tender age of three, but before long I was 16 and was eager to help my mom with her passion. Following my love for fashion, I could always be found at Second Childhood after school and on the weekends! We are now celebrating 40 years in business and I’ve been the owner for 13 years of them!
We’ve moved several times over the years, but our move back to the Carillon Centre in our expanded space has really inspired me and helped me keep the passion alive! I look forward to serving our community with a newfound excitement and vision in a beautiful store of which I couldn’t be more proud! And of course, we wouldn’t be who we are today without our amazing customers (friends) that support us every day.
We hope to see you soon!
